NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (NRT) & TOBACCO CESSATION MEDICATIONS
WHAT IS IT?
Medications that have nicotine are called nicotine replacement medications or nicotine replacement therapy, also called NRT. These medications substitute for the nicotine from tobacco. They provide less nicotine than tobacco products, but usually enough to lessen withdrawal symptoms and cravings and increase your sense of control as you stop tobacco use. Forms of NRT include the patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler and nasal spray. Non-nicotine medications also can help. Non-nicotine medications include bupropion SR (sustained release) and varenicline.
